2015 Can-Am Spyder F3-S - First Ride

This is video of AutoAcademics' first ride on the 2015 Can-Am Spyder F3-S. This Y-configured 3-wheeler provides greater stability than a traditional 2-wheeled motorcycle, yet retains 100% of the open air experience. The Spyder F3-S bridges the gap between Can-Am's extended touring RT and the performance-focused RS. Watch as we experience our first ride in less than optimal conditions.

Thanks for the video. I watched your review before buying my 2015 Spyder F3S from the same dealer in Marietta. Four month and about 1300 mile of smiles so far.

+Jeff Smith We're happy you found our video, Jeff Smith. Sounds like you're enjoying your Spyder and even though the weather was real crappy the day we tested it, Atlanta has some wonderful F3S weather this time of year. Enjoy, ride safely, and thanks for watching!

+Zariah Holmes Well, Zariah Holmes, you do have a point, albeit a very small one. The Polaris Slingshot reportedly does 0-60 in "less than 6 seconds," so let's say a generous 5.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 130 mph. The Can-Am Spyder does 0-60 in a reported 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 127 mph. We'd probably take the 0-60 time over the top speed on this one. However, as we stated, you do have a point. Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching, too!

Its a trike.. not a motorcycle.
AutoAcademics
AutoAcademics
+yaksportfish Well, the terminology used to describe this vehicle is all a matter of semantics and preference, we guess.  While "trike" is a very accurate description for this 3-wheeler, many States still consider this a motorcycle, requiring a "Class M" license to operate it on public roads.  However, in defense of your position, there are some States that do not consider it a motorcycle, requiring only a car license to operate it.  We specifically asked Can-Am's representatives how they classify this vehicle and they did not have a specific term either.  We appreciate your comment and thanks for watching!

The main reason I am thinking about purchasing a Spyder is due to my mother not liking 2 wheelers... That said I have looked at Spyders and I am very confused about the Law in California to ride one. Do I need a motorcycle license or driverse license to ride one???
AutoAcademics
AutoAcademics
+fonite This is a question that a few people have had, due to the variances in laws from State to State. Hopefully, this link will provide a little more insight for you. We had referred people to the link in the comment below, but apparently BRP has changed it. Here is the new link that provides the regulations for each state: http://can-am.brp.com/spyder/shopping-tools/license-requirements.html. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Hello great video but i have a question how fast can it go on the highways like does it atleast get up to 80 -90 mph and will this be able to keep up for long distance rides with other motorcycle
AutoAcademics
AutoAcademics
+Nicole Hamilton While we do not know what the exact top speed of the Spyder F3 is, we do know that it will have no problem keeping up with other motorcycles, so long as they stay under your triple-digit benchmarks. This is not a sportbike, however, so if that is what you typically ride with (or are planning on riding with), they may leave you from time to time at stoplights. If you plan on riding more "maturely" and legally, then one of these would be just fine. Thanks for watching and comment back on here if you purchase one. We'd love to know your thoughts.

I HAVE ONE VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION. DOES IT GET HOT ON THE LEGS LIKE THE RS? MY 2012 RS GETS SOOOO HOT ON THE LEGS ITS HARD TO RIDE DURING HOT DAYS
Je fu
Je fu
+Coraga 1 Thanks I had the chance of test driving one for like an hour I loved it and hope I can sell my 2012 RSS or maybe I will wait for a used one I own 3000.0 on my 2012 but they only want too give me 10k So I will wait to see if the price drops down this winter
Coraga 1

+Je fu These come with a Rotax engine, that's a German manufacture that also sells engines for small planes. I doubt it would have heat problems.

AutoAcademics
+Je fu Unfortunately, we did not experience the F3 in more "normal" riding conditions and we did not notice any extra heat on our legs.  We also weren't sitting in back where we assume your wife sits.  Our best advice would be to test ride one before making the switch.  Feel free to comment back to let us know how you make out.
Je fu
Je fu
yes I do but when its 90 plus the heat from my Rss is so hot my wife finds it to hot for her too ride with me.  So I was thinking about a trade in for this F3 and is why I wanted to know about the heat

+DerrickRose fanFORREAL  The license requirements vary depending upon where you live.  Assuming you live in the U.S., there are different requirements for each State.  For example, Georgia requires a motorcycle license to operate a Spyder, but California only requires a car license.  This site provides the regulations:  http://www.spyder.brp.com/license-requirements.  Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

I do not like how it looks with 3 wheels. I would rather something with same aspect but on 4 wheels.  3 wheels looks weird to me

I saw the ad on tv but just caught the last few seconds of it. I actually thought it was a 4 wheeler. (Sorry haven't had a bike in years and lost interest in it) But this looks nice and something anyone could ride. While looking this up, I thought that maybe they redesigned 4 wheelers so they couldn't roll as easy. That's an idea?
AutoAcademics
AutoAcademics
+fridaykiss8521 It's definitely a great bike for a transitional rider --- someone who either has never ridden before or who hasn't ridden in a while. Steering is reminiscent of a quad (4-wheeler) and it has decent power and is pretty comfortable, too. 4-wheelers were always more stable than trikes (3-wheelers), but the tadpole configuration (2 wheels in front, 1 in rear) is proven more stable than the delta configuration (1 wheel in front, 2 in rear). Thanks for watching, fridaykiss8521!
